Augustus and his smile

This week we have read a story about a tiger who thinks he has lost his smile so sets out to find it.  Only to discover that whenever he is happy his smile will appear. We have discussed emotions and how our face and body show which emotion we are feeling.

Division

This week we have been dividing by grouping and by sharing.  We have worked practically and then recorded using sentences like, 3 groups of 5. The Owls have learnt the skill of working systematically to share.

British Science Week 2021

Humpty Dumpty Science

So as you are aware Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall and cracked his head open. The Owl class decided to test out different materials we could use to make Humpty an impact suit. Then we tested the fall!!!

Making Green

This week in Art we made green by mixing yellow and blue.  The children experimented by mixing different amounts of these colours and observed the effects.  They created 5 different shades and then painted their hand print.

Maths

This week we have been doing work on numberlines. An example of some of my questioning and discussion is:- Jim is counting on a number line. He says 14 is in the middle of 10 and 20. Is he correct? How do you know?  I then gave them sentence starters to say their reasoning.

The world’s largest lesson

Today the Owls have taken part in the world largest lesson.   We talked about climate change and sustainable goals.  We completed an activity where we designed and built walls, exploring the different ways that we can affect each other and our community through the things we build.
