The School Council was set up to allow pupils to get more involved in the way our school is run.
It is made up of two representatives from each class who were voted in by other pupils. It is the responsibility of each councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.
There are two school council meetings each half term, and they last about 30 minutes.
The aim of each meeting is for the children to come up with good ideas that will improve the School. They will be responsible for organising and leading the meetings. A representative from the meeting will then be responsible for ensuring that senior member of staff are aware of their views.
In the last academic year the School Council were responsible for:
- Making changes to School Dinner options.
- Carrying out a Playground Survey in which children were able to say what equipment they would like to have out at playtimes.
The Election date for this years new School Council will be announced soon!
At BI we have a group of children who are part of our Eco Warriors team. Together they make sure that we recycle our paper as well as take part in mini projects such as growing their own vegetables, Fair Trade awareness and climatic change. The team sent a letter to the Prime minister, David Cameron and he even replied! The team meet on a regular basis and have even been awarded with a monetary prize from the Total Green School Award.
