Letters, Sounds & Phonics

We use Letters and Sounds to support the children’s learning of phonics.

Every child receives 20 mins of phonics teaching, which is set according to the relevant phase of the children’s learning journey. Each learning phase group uses a range of phonics materials to enhance the learning experience and provide children with a range of learning opportunities to apply skills and understanding. At the end of each phase children’s understanding is assessed to ensure that relevant progression and understanding has been made.

To support our children further in the acquisition of phonics skills a range of support teaching sessions run alongside Letters and Sounds. These range from using additional materials and resources to support common misconceptions within a Letters and Sounds group. Additional groups take place for those children with SEN and support according to their individualised needs is given through direct phonics and Languageland groups.
