At our school we follow the National Curriculum 2014. We believe that the way we deliver the curriculum motivates and inspires our pupils. As well as teaching the basic skills daily we take a creative approach to learning with a range of themes and topics. At the beginning of each topic we have ‘entry point’ days. This usually involves the children dressing up for the day and being immersed in a day’s events on a particular theme. Examples have included Mister Men, Safari days, an alien landing in the playground and fairy tales. Photographic evidence can be found under special events or in the gallery.
As part of our curriculum we recognise and celebrate local, national and global events. We have enjoyed many celebrations over the years including the London Olympics, The Royal Jubilee and the school’s own 75th birthday. We have also supported events such as Children in Need, UNICEF Day for Change and Birmingham City Mission Toy appeal for local families in need. Our curriculum is enriched by various educational visits including the theatre, the farm, the town hall and many more.
At BIS we are a multi faith community and whilst we follow the traditional Christian calendar we also learn about other faiths. We follow the Birmingham Agreed syllabus and visit various places of worship. During a child’s time here they will have visited a church, a temple and a mosque. We teach our pupils to respect each other and the values of being a good citizen.
